When I began to think about Hunger in relation to my latest work, three different texts constantly appeared in my mind. But every time I tried to combine them I somehow failed. And so I decided not to succeed and just show them as they are. Each text has a specific meaning to me and brought together they form a new whole. The first text “To Those Who Follow in Our Wake” is part of a poem by Bertolt Brecht first published in “Svendborger Gedichte” (1939). The book is named after the city on the small Danish island where I grew up and where Brecht lived and worked between 1933-39.

I ate my food between slaughters.
I laid down to sleep among murderers.
I tended to love with abandon.
I looked upon nature with impatience.
And so passed
The time given to me on earth.

“The Hunger” is the name of the third episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. The second text is a transcript of the episode. Food feeling hunger for food — innocence, poetry and cannibalism.

SpongeBob: Is everybody ok?
Plankton: Yep.
Sandy: But the car took major damage from the crash - the front is smashed, a popped tire and leaking fuel.
Karen: My senses see that 56% of the car is damaged and 0% fuel.
Squidward: DANGIT! Now what?
SpongeBob: Well there is a gas station nearby, maybe it has fuel.
Patrick: I got tape!
Larry: I will fix the front.
Gary: Meow (I’m hungry).
SpongeBob: I think I have some snailpooo. AHHHHHH!!!
Sandy: What?
SpongeBob: I don’t have food for Gary!
Everyone except Squidward: (GASP).
Sandy: The poor thing’s gonna starve!
Patrick: AND DIE!!!

The last text is a quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger I read in an article on wealthygorilla.com. Because as he is described in the article: “Arnie is a classic example of how dreams truly can come true. Everything he has, has come from building himself a great body: the movie roles, money, American citizenship, confidence, Governor of California. It all started with focusing simply on building his body.”

“Be hungry for success, hungry to make your mark, hungry to be seen and to be heard and to have an effect. And as you move up and become successful, make sure also to be hungry for helping others.”
